The Israelites celebrated seven annual festivals: Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, Festival of First Fruits, Feast of Harvest, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths). In addition, the Israelites celebrated the Festival of Jubilee on the 50th year, the year following seven cycles of seven Sabbatical years.
During the festivals, the Israelites ate, danced, sang, played instruments, prayed, and offered sacrifices to God.
The Year of Jubilee celebrated God’s gift of freedom. It was a consecrated year set aside to proclaim liberty and restoration for all of the inhabitants of the land. Debts were forgiven, and those who had sold themselves to settle a debt were set free.
The Feast of Jubilee symbolizes our eternity in heaven with our Lord and Savior—living in perfection, free from the debt of sin.
Connect as a family
Surprise your children this week with a celebration. Set out balloons, streamers, and a yummy treat. When your children ask why your family is celebrating, explain it’s because God is so good. He loves us and sent His Son to set us free from sin! Let your kids know God’s people rejoiced in His gift of freedom by celebrating the Festival of Jubilee. Read Psalm 96 together. Take some time to discuss all the ways God has blessed your family. Celebrate His freedom.

What does this passage tell us about God?
What is your favorite song of praise to God?
What are some things you can praise God for?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God gives us freedom into your everyday life as a family.
Blessing
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child:(Child’s name), may you experience the freedom that only comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ. May you walk every day in the joy that comes from that freedom.
