26 West Church

Helping people experience life in Jesus.

Our Story

26 West Church launched its first official gathering as a church on Easter Sunday in 2012. But our story fits in the larger movement of God's work in our city.

Cedar Mill Bible Church sent out Phil Comer to plant what is now known as A Jesus Church in 2004. Jose Zayas was a traveling evangelist and part of the teaching team at AJC. After years of continued growth, AJC began planting churches to serve different parts of the city: Bridgetown in downtown Portland in 2010 with John Mark Comer and then 26 West Church in Hillsboro in 2012 with Jose Zayas.

At 26 West Church, we are deeply committed to local and global outreach, sharing the Good News of Jesus and planting churches. In our first ten years, we've been privileged to be part of planting churches in Raleigh, North Carolina; Spokane, Washington; Bend, Oregon; San Diego, California; Tallinn, Estonia and Arua, Uganda. We've also organized local outreaches for the community called "Good News Today" at Hillsboro Stadium.

We're thankful for what God has done and are excited for where He is taking us in the future. We pray you'd experience life in Jesus at 26 West Church today!

Our Mission & Vision

26 West Church's mission is "Helping people experience life in Jesus."

We do this together by learning to:

Follow Jesus

We gather as a church family each Sunday for worship through teaching the scriptures, singing, communion, baptism, and prayer. We scatter as a church family in Community Groups to build relationships that spur us on to love and follow Jesus in all of life. These groups share meals together, work through how to live out the Sunday teachings, pray and care for one another.

Love one another

The church is a people that serve one another and the community we live in. There are many ways to serve in our church family, and there are teams partnering with local organizations to share the love of Jesus in the city. We live generously, sharing our time and resources with those in need locally and globally.

Share the Good News

We're a church committed to sharing the Good News in word and deed. We're active in church planting, hosting outreaches locally and globally, and equipping the church to live on mission in all of life.

Our Beliefs

We are an evangelical church that holds to the global and historic Christian faith as expressed in the Lausanne Covenant.

We are a non-denominational church that partners with many different churches, locally and globally, on the mission of God.

We are a Bible-teaching church. God's Word is authoritative and true, so most of the weekend teachings walk through books of the Bible verse by verse.

We are a Gospel-centered church. The Gospel (or Good News) of Jesus is the center of all we do as a church—it unites us. We want everyone to hear and respond to the Good News of Jesus and follow Him.

We are a "soft-complementarian" church that male elders lead. While both men and women have equal value and are gifted to serve in the church, we believe that the Scriptures say that the leadership role of the elder is intended for a team of qualified men. Visit our staff page to meet our leadership team.

We are a Spirit-empowered church. We believe that all of the expressions of the Spirit in Scripture are relevant and important today. We are committed to being a church that walks in Spirit and truth in all we do.

We are a community church. We believe the church is a community, a family, and a place to be known. We also believe that local churches exist for the good of the city, and we desire everyone to find practical ways to be on the mission with Jesus in our world.
