The Parent Weekly for September 11th, Festival of Jubilee: Remembering and Celebrating Gift of Freedom

What we learned today

Big Idea: Remember & Celebrate

Festival of Jubilee: Remembering and Celebrating Gift of Freedom

Where we're headed next time

Big Idea: God redeems.

Need for a Redeemer. Genesis 1—3

Did you know?

Share these facts to get the conversation started:

  • “Genesis,” which means “origin,” explains how God created everything in the universe.

  • God gave the first humans the full responsibility over the earth and animals.

  • Adam and Eve gave up the right to live in perfect harmony with God when they chose to sin.

  • After Adam and Eve sinned, God immediately showed them His perfect love by promising to send the Redeemer.

Connect as a family

Read this part of The Big God Story outside, preferably in a park or garden. Take some time to look around at God’s creation—trees, clouds, birds, flowers, insects, and more. Then read Genesis 1—3.

After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:

  • If you could have been there on any of the days of creation, which day would you choose? Why?

  • Talk together about how God “covered” Adam and Eve when they sinned.

  • Discuss how God, in His perfect love for us, covered our sin by sending His Son as our Redeemer.

These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God redeems into your everyday life as a family.

Blessing

Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.

A blessing to pray over your child:(Child’s name),the Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
