Where we're headed next time
Big Idea: The Lord is our righteousness
Jeremiah. Jeremiah 23v5–6. Jeremiah prophesied about Jesus in the Old Testament.
Did you know?
Share these facts to get the conversation started:
In Jeremiah 23v1, Jeremiah denounced the leaders of Judah for the evil way they had ruled God’s people.
Jeremiah’s prophecy (Jeremiah 23v5–6) foretold the King of God’s choosing in contrast to the evil kings who had sat upon the throne.
Through Jeremiah, God reminded His people that no matter how dark things became, He would fulfill His promise to David and bring a king who would rule justly and bring peace.
By sending His Son, Jesus, God the Father brought from the Davidic family line a King—the righteous Branch, the promised Heir to David’s throne.
Connect as a family
Gather your family around the table. Ask someone to sit at the head of the table, and declare him to be the “king.” Make him a construction paper crown and give him a robe to wear—or anything else that’s “kingly.” Read Jeremiah 23v5–6. Ask your kids what the word righteous means. Share with them that it means “fair, right, and perfect.” Only Jesus can be the perfect King—the righteous King!
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
What prophecy did Jeremiah give to God’s people?
When Jesus came to earth, how was He different from an earthly king?
What does it mean that Jesus is King of Kings?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how the Lord is our righteousness into your everyday life as a family.
Blessing
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you know Jesus as your King. May you trust Him to guide you throughout your life.
