Big Idea: God's love compels.
Jesus' Anointing, Last Supper, Betrayal. Matthew 26v1–56; Luke 22v1–53. Just before His death, Jesus shared a last supper with His disciples, prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, and was betrayed by one of His followers.

Big Idea: God restores relationship
Trial, Crucifixion, Resurrection. Luke 22v63—24v8. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again three days later!

Share these facts to get the conversation started:
Before the coming of the Messiah, God commanded Israel to make different kinds of offerings and sacrifices, including a sin offering. This offering points directly to the work of Jesus.
A person considered royalty gave a young male goat. All others gave a young female lamb or goat. However, if a person couldn’t afford these animals, he could sacrifice two turtledoves or two pigeons.
Every sacrifice had to be unblemished and pure.
Connect as a family
Read Luke 23v44–49; 24v1–8 with your children. Spend some time discussing what they just heard. Have they chosen to trust and obey Jesus? If your children haven’t accepted Christ, read John 3:16. Talk with them about the amazing promise of eternal life Jesus makes in this verse and how that eternal life starts the moment we choose to follow Him. If your kids want to choose to follow Jesus for the first time—and it’s okay if they don’t—pray with them. Explain that they only need to tell God they realize their need for forgiveness and want Him in their lives.
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
How do you think Jesus’ followers felt on Good Friday?
Why did Jesus have to die on the cross?
How can we show our gratitude to Jesus for His sacrifice?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God Restores Relationship into your everyday life as a family.
Blessing
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you know that Jesus suffered and died for your sins so you can be in relationship with God.
