Share these facts to get the conversation started:
The day of Pentecost marked the beginning of the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant, in which God had promised to bless everyone through Abraham’s seed.
Pentecost also began the fulfillment of Joel 2v28, in which God promised to “pour out [His] Spirit on all people.”
At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit empowered the disciples to preach the good news in many languages.
On the day of Pentecost, three thousand people came to faith in Christ.
Connect as a family
Spend time with your children searching for an item in the house that comes from another country (for example, a picture, a book, or a souvenir). Read Matthew 28v16–20 and Acts 2v1–11. Explain that on the day God sent His Spirit, people from many different countries were present. Today there are lots of countries and languages in the world too, and Jesus wants people in every one of those places to hear about Him. Tell your kids about the item you found and the people it represents. Encourage your children to share what they know about other nations.
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
Why is making disciples of all nations important?
How did receiving the Holy Spirit change things for the disciples?
Why do we need the Holy Spirit today? How does He help us?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God's Spirit Changes Everything into your everyday life as a family.
Blessing
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you know that God’s Spirit has changed you so that you might become more like Him.
