Joseph’s brother traveled to Egypt in search of grain during the great famine.
Joseph’s brothers didn’t recognize him when they saw him.
Joseph kept his identity hidden from his brothers and tested their motives before revealing himself.
God worked through the difficulties of Joseph’s life to ultimately save his family.
Connect as a family
Tell your children a story of how God used a difficult circumstance in your family for good. Then read Genesis 42v1–20 and 45v1–15. Explain to your children that this passage of Scripture describes another time God turned something hard and painful into something good. Ask your children if they want God to work through any difficult or discouraging situations in their own lives.
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
Why did Joseph’s brothers go to Egypt?
How did Joseph’s brothers react when he told them who he was?
How has God saved you?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God saves into your everyday life as a family.

Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child:(Child’s name), may you know that God loves you. He saved you. He protects you and will always be with you in difficult times.
