The Parent Weekly for November 27th, God is Warrior

What we learned today

Big Idea: God is Warrior

The Exodus, Part 1. Exodus 5—12. God sends plagues to Egypt as a means of rescuing His people from their oppression.

Where we're headed next time

Big Idea: God is victorious

The Exodus, Part 2. Exodus 12—15. God wins the battle for the Israelites by miraculously parting the Red Sea.

Did you know?

Share these facts to get the conversation started:

  • After letting the Israelites go, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army to chase the Israelites and bring them back to Egypt.

  • God saved the Israelites again by miraculously parting the Red Sea and allowing them to pass on dry land.

  • The Israelites celebrated Passover together, year after year, as a way to remember together how God had won the battle to free them.

Connect as a family

Fill some glasses with grape juice or sparkling cider and pass them to each family member. Read Exodus 12v31–33; 14v5–8, 13–28, and explain to your children that God helped the Israelites escape their slavery and find victory. Now invite each family member to share about a difficult time God helped him to overcome (or, for younger kids, “something scary” God helped them through). After each person shares her story, lift your glasses for a toast, and together say, “Thank You, God!”

After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:

  • What did Pharaoh tell Moses and Aaron after the Passover happened?

  • Why do you think Pharaoh decided to let the Israelites go?

  • What did the Passover symbolize?

These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God is victorious into your everyday life as a family.

Blessing

Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.

A blessing to pray over your child:(Child’s name), may you know that God is victorious and He will care for you.
