Did you know?
Share these facts to get the conversation started:
The temple in first-century Jerusalem was divided into sections. Social status determined how far into the temple one could go.
Solomon’s portico was known as the Court of the Gentiles. It was a section of the temple that most anyone could enter.
The only section of the temple that the crippled man had ever been in was Solomon’s portico.
This man grew up his entire life wanting to enter the temple and was never allowed to. Now that he was no longer crippled, he was allowed to enter.
Connect as a family
Grab a blanket, gather your family, and find a gate or fence to sit by. Invite your children to close their eyes and imagine how it might feel to sit in a place for a long time and not be able to move. Tell them you’re going to read about a man in The Big God Story who couldn’t move his legs and had to sit by a gate and beg. Read Acts 3v1–10. Ask your children what kind of healing this man needed. Then discuss together what the man did once he was healed.
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
How did God use Peter in the beggar’s life?
How did God use the beggar’s healing to bring people to Him?
How does God use people today?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God's Power Changes Everything into your everyday life as a family.
Blessing
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you feel God’s Spirit helping you follow Him.
