The Parent Weekly for July 21st, Our God Saves (part 2)

What we learned today

Big Idea: Our God Saves (part 2)

Jonah 1—4. God asked Jonah to go to Nineveh and deliver a special message. Instead, Jonah ran from God. He boarded a boat, but God sent a violent storm. Eventually, Jonah was thrown overboard and swallowed by a great fish. After three days in the belly of the fish, God rescued Jonah and he went to Nineveh to deliver the message.

Where we’re headed next time

Big Idea: Gods Word Has Power (part 1)

2 Kings 22—23v23 Scrolls containing God’s Word were discovered during the temple restoration. Josiah made sure the scrolls were read to the people. The powerful words led the people to destroy their idols and continue to repair the Lord’s temple.

Dig into God’s Word

  • Read 2 Kings 22v8–19. After reading, remind your child that God‘s Word had power in King Josiah‘s life.

Connect as a family

Your child may enjoy playing with nesting blocks.
Choose a few to overturn. Hide an object beneath one
and encourage your child to find it. Remind him how Josiah found God’s Word.

  • Where can we read God’s words?

  • In the Bible!

Blessing

Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.

Open a Bible and read Psalm 119v105a: “Your word is a lamp for my feet.”
