In Daniel 6, Daniel faces a monumental test of faith: Pray to God and face death. But he continues to pray three times a day.
To get a glimpse of the heart of Daniel’s prayers, we only have to look a few chapters over, to Daniel 9. Here Daniel asks God to forgive Israel’s sins and look upon the nation with favor in the coming years.
Daniel prays with urgency: “Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act!” (Daniel 9v19).
The answer from God discusses the fate of Daniel’s people for the rest of time. God doesn’t just promise that the Messiah will come; God also tells them when.
Connect as a family
Spend some time with your children exploring information about lions. Look at photos of lions, see how long they live, find out what they like to eat—or search for any other interesting facts about lions. When you’re finished with your research, read Daniel 6 together to hear how God saved Daniel from some hungry lions. Ask your children why they think the lions didn’t attack Daniel. Ask them how the king responded when he realized Daniel was safe.
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
Why was it amazing that the lions didn’t eat Daniel
How did God save Daniel from the lions’ den?
How did Daniel’s time in the lions’ den prove to the king that God is real?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God is real into your everyday life as a family.

Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child:(Child’s name), may you know that our God is real, that He is the living God, and that He has the power to save and rescue you. May you see His work in your life.
