Luke 2v1–16. God promised His people to send a Savior into the world. After many years of waiting, God fulfilled His promise by sending His own Son, Jesus.
Where we’re headed next time
Big Idea: Jesus is born. (Part 2)
Luke 2v8–20. While the shepherds were watching their sheep at night, the sky lit up and an angel of the Lord appeared to them. The shepherds were terrified. The angel told them not to be afraid for he had come with good news. The Savior had been born. The Promise they had been waiting for had finally come!
Did you know?
Before Christmas was instituted, there were several different festivals people celebrated, including winter solstice and other winter festivals honoring pagan gods.
The church began to challenge the pagan traditions by holding services on the 25th of December.
Today Christmas is observed by Christians all over the world as a time set aside to remember the birth of Christ and marvel at the wonder that God became flesh in order to provide the way for us to be in relationship with Him forever.
Connect as a family
This week, read the account of Jesus’ birth in Luke 2v1–16. Then have a birthday party for Jesus! Bake a cake, light some candles, and sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus. After you’ve finished singing, allow each family member to share what gift they'd like to bring to the King. Maybe they want to write a song of worship to Him. Or perhaps they want to show others Jesus’ love by serving them in some way. The possibilities are endless.
Why was it so important for God’s Son, Jesus, to be born on earth?
How do you think the shepherds felt when they first saw baby Jesus?
What are some ways we can celebrate Jesus’ birth throughout the year?
Blessing
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child (Child’s name), may you always know that God loves you, and how deep His love is for you.
