Share these facts to get the conversation started:
God created us to live in the garden of Eden, to be in perfect relationship with Him, and to worship Him with all of our hearts, minds, and souls. We weren’t intended to live in a broken world.
In Genesis 3v15, God said to Satan, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
Jesus would be Eve’s offspring, and He would have victory over Satan.
The words of Genesis 3v15 are called the protevangelium, “the first gospel,” because they were God’s first promise to send the Redeemer—Christ.
Connect as a family
Read Genesis 2v8–22 outside with your children, preferably while sitting on green grass, next to a tree, or near flowers. After you’ve read the passage, tell your children that when Adam and Eve lived with God in the garden of Eden, they walked and talked with Him. Explain that Adam and Eve eventually disobeyed God and broke their relationship with Him, but God sent Jesus to restore that relationship. Share that we also sin, but God offers us forgiveness so we can be close to Him.
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
How did God create Adam?
What do you think it might have been like to live in the garden?
What command did God give to Adam?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about God as Redeemer into your everyday life as a family.
Blessing
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child: (Child’s name), may you know that God made the way for you to be in relationship with Him because He loves you and He is good.
