The Parent Weekly

We believe parents are the primary teachers in a child's life. Because of this, we post a Parent Weekly each Sunday which includes big ideas from that week’s teaching, the memory verse, questions for family discussion, and a look at where we’re headed the following week. Our hope is for this to be a helpful tool as you continue raising your kids to love God and love people.

Year 1, Summer: Lesson 11

What we learned today

Big Idea: God is the living God (part 1)

Daniel 6 The king passed a new law that forced the people to pray to him only. Daniel loved God and prayed only to Him. When the king found out, he had no choice but to put Daniel in the lions’ den. God protected Daniel. He was saved, and the
living God was praised.

Where we're headed next time

Big Idea: God is the living God (part 2)

Daniel 6 The king passed a new law that forced the people to pray to him only. Daniel loved God and prayed only to Him. When the king found out, he had no choice but to put Daniel in the lions’ den. God protected Daniel. He was saved, and the
living God was praised.

Did you know?

  • Daniel prayed three times a day. He often prayed for God’s people even though they had turned from worshipping Him.

  • When King Darius ran to the lions’ den to find Daniel, Daniel was alive and well and without a single scratch on him!

Connect as a family

Your child can distinguish emotions based on facial expressions and can mimic those expressions. As you read Daniel’s story, allow your child to make happy, scared, angry, sad, and surprised faces
during appropriate parts of the story.

  • Who protected Daniel? God did.

  • The king sent a message to the world telling them that God is the living God.

Blessing

Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.

A blessing to pray over your child. (Insert your child’s name), may you remember that the living God is always with you. He is powerful enough to protect you.
